Do you remember when your mom use to say, “Eat all of your vegetables so you can grow up and be strong?” What did mom know that no one else did? That vegetable builds muscles! Very seldom do we think of vegetables food that builds muscles, since there are certain kind of vegetable that are good in building muscles in your body.

Muscle Building Vegetables

Vegetables should have a place in the meals every day because they contain iron, lime and the other minerals which build bones and blood and regulate the work of the body. Vegetables are the cheapest source of minerals and their value in the diet is great.
Certain foods are called muscle builders because they contain a substance, protein, which builds muscles and other parts of the body. All vegetables contain protein, though some have only small amounts. The important muscle-building vegetables are beans, peas, lentils, and peanuts. Nuts also contain the muscle-building material. Other vegetables contain much smaller amounts of protein. The body-building materials of the vegetables are not so excellent as those of milk, cheese, egg, and meat. Therefore, if one uses these vegetables in the meals as a source of protein for any length of time, it is wise to serve them with milk, cheese, or egg.

Vegetables That Produce Fuel

Every person must eat foods which give the body fuel in addition to those containing minerals and the body-building protein. Vegetables are so good in regulating fuel to the body. The vegetables which give the body the most fuel or heat are: potatoes, sweet potatoes, beets, melons, sweet corn, carrots, turnips, nuts, peanuts, peas, and beans. All vegetables contain large amounts of water and many have little fuel and body-building protein. Their pleasing flavors and acids, in addition to the minerals and growth substances make them worthy of a place in the diet. Their bulk aids in digestion and in keeping the body well. Such vegetables as asparagus, greens, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, onion, lettuce, and cucumbers, for instance, supply flavor and bulk as well as mineral matter. Because of their bulkiness and laxative tendency, together with their relatively high content of iron and other minerals, vegetables should always have a place in the diet.

Ways to Prepare Vegetables

Preparing and serving vegetables in different ways means that the family are good for the family. The purpose of cooking vegetables is to soften them. Their taste is best preserved when cooked by boiling, steaming or baking. Wilted vegetables can be freshened simply crisp by soaking in cold water for an hour before being served raw or cooked. If the head and leaf vegetables are soaked head down in cold water to which a tablespoon or so of vinegar has been added, the insects will drop out.

When boiling vegetables the use of a small amount of water is best. A large part of the minerals and some of the fuel substances and muscle-building protein dissolve out and are lost if the water is drained off and not saved for use. Cutting the vegetables lengthwise instead of crosswise and in large pieces will lessen the loss. Peeling the vegetables before cooking increases the loss.

Vegetables prepared properly are of great value in our meals. They lower the cost of living and aid in keeping the family well. A step toward good health-America’s greatest asset—is taken by the health housewife who makes a wide use of vegetables in the meals for her family every day throughout the year.

So just as your mom use to say when you were young is just as true today-”Eat all of your vegetables and be strong!”

About 215,000 young people under 20 years of age have diabetes. Most of them have type 1 diabetes. As obesity rates in children continue to soar, type 2 diabetes, a disease that used to be seen primarily in adults over age 45, is becoming more common in young people. Children with diabetes and their families face unique challenges when dealing with diabetes
.
So what are some questions facing young people today with diabetes? Well here are a few tips and answers, that will help teens to cope with diabetes.

Be Active

Physical activity is good for everyone. Being active is really important if you have diabetes. Check out these ideas on how to be more active.

What’s so important about being physically active?

Being active keeps your body healthy and strong and gives you more energy. It can help you think and be more alert in school. It can also help you stay at a healthy weight or help you lose weight slowly. Being active is an important part of a healthy lifestyle.

Physical activity can make you feel better if you are in a bad mood or stressed out. It can relax you and help you sleep well. It helps your body use blood glucose, also called blood sugar, for energy. Physical activity can help keep your blood glucose in a normal range.

What activities can I do?

There are many ways you can be active. Pick things you like to do.

Take a walk, hike, or ride a bike.

Skateboard, roller blade, or ice skate.

Play some music and dance with your friends. If you like video games, try a dance or other active video game.

Play basketball, baseball, softball, golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball, or your favorite sport.

Go bowling.

Think of other things you like to do and just move! It is an easy way to have fun.

Make physical activity a part of your daily life. Be active with your friends or family members. It is easier and more fun when you ask someone to join you.

How active should I be?

If you have not been very active in the past, start slowly. Try a few minutes each day. Do not get upset if you cannot do a lot or if you get out of breath at first—keep moving. Any amount of activity will help. Slowly work up to at least 60 minutes everyday. You might find it fun to count your steps with a pedometer (step counter). Add a few more steps each day. Over time, work up to at least 10,000 steps a day.

What should I do before being more active?

Talk to your doctor about the types of physical activity that might work best for you.

Check your blood glucose before the start and after the end of your activity.

If you take insulin, make sure your blood glucose does not get too low during or after activity. Always wear a Medical ID bracelet.

Keep something handy to treat low blood glucose, such as fruit juice, glucose tablets, or a snack.

But I hate to exercise – what can I do?

You do not have to play a sport or go to a gym. There are a lot of things you can do to be more active:

Do sit-ups or jump rope while watching TV.

Lift light weights to strengthen your muscles.

Jog around the block or walk fast around the mall a few times.

Help your mom or dad carry groceries, clean the house, cut grass, do garden work, rake leaves, or shovel snow.

Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Take your dog for a walk.

Ride your bike instead of driving or getting a ride from your parents or a friend.

Make a list of things you like to do to be physically active. Hang it in your room as a reminder. Keep track of your progress.

Tips for parents

to promote physical activity for teens in their community

Talk to school staff about allowing more activity time for students.

Ask if you can schedule physical activities such as karate or dance at the school during after-school hours.

Involve your family in active programs like the YMCA, swim clubs, 4H, Boy or Girl Scouts, Boys & Girls Clubs, and youth recreation programs.

Talk to local leaders about making safe places for teens to be active.

Volunteer to help create or fix up public playgrounds or sports grounds.

How can I manage my diabetes?

If you have diabetes, you need to be active, make healthy food choices, and stay at a healthy weight. You also need to take your insulin or any other medicines that your doctor tells you to and check your blood glucose as planned with your health care team. Taking care of your diabetes can help you stay fit, feel great, and give you more energy to have fun.

If you already love exercising, then you are aware of most of the benefits of exercise for your physical health and your diabetes control. But then there are those who do not like to exercise-much and that includes millions of those who have diabetes. Physical activity is recommended for everyone. The benefits includes: Improved blood sugar control, weight loss, lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, improved circulation, improved mood, attitude, self esteem, and better sleep. The minimum amount recommended is about 30 minutes, 3 or more times a week. Here are four basic questions and answers about physical activity and diabetes.

Question: What kind of physical activity can help me? Answer: Four kinds of activity can help. You can be extra active every day; You can do do aerobic exercise; You can do strength training; Or you can simply stretch. Physical activities can include things like playing with the kids, take the dog for a walk, parking at the far end of the shopping center or grocery store, or taking the stairs in stead of the elevator. And don’t forget about swimming or dancing. You get the idea. Strength training is exercises with hand weights, elastic bands, or weight machines you can do three times a week to builds muscle and reduce fat.

Question: Can I exercise any time I want? Answer: Check with your doctor. If you have type 1 diabetes, avoid strenuous exercise when you have ketones in your blood or urine. Ketones are chemicals your body might make when your blood glucose level is too high and your insulin level is too low. Too many ketones can make you sick. If you exercise when you have ketones in your blood or urine, your blood glucose level may go even higher. If you have type 2 diabetes and your blood glucose is high but you don’t have ketones, light or moderate exercise will probably lower your blood glucose.

Question: Are there any types of physical activity I shouldn’t do? Answer: If you have diabetes complications, some kinds of exercise can make your problems worse. For example, activities that increase the pressure in the blood vessels of your eyes, such as lifting heavy weights, can make diabetic eye problems worse. If nerve damage from diabetes has made your feet numb, your doctor may suggest that you try swimming instead of walking for aerobic exercise. Make sure you exercise in cotton socks and comfortable, well-fitting shoes designed for the activity you are doing. After you exercise, check your feet for cuts, sores, bumps, or redness. Call your doctor if any foot problems develop.

Question: What can I do to make sure I stay active? Answer: One thing is to find something you like to do. If you keep finding excuses not to exercise, think about why. Are your goals realistic? Do you need a change in activity? Would another time be more convenient? Keep trying until you find a routine that works for you. Once you make physical activity a habit, you may find that there is no looking back.

Now here is one more question: IS THERE A PERMANENT CURE TO DIABETES? Perhaps you yourself, a family member, or someone you knows who has diabetes has wondered to the answer of this question. According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes was discovered in the early 19th century. By the turn of that century there was already a very talented doctor who treated diabetes as a cure and wrote about. His name was Emil Schnee and the book he wrote is entitled “Diabetes Its Cause and Permanent Cure”- now available as an eBook at http://store.payloadz.com/details/812824.

It’s a little known fact that 75% of the population is chronically dehydrated and that this is an underlying issue in a lot of our health problems.

Why do we get dehydrated?

1.We don’t drink enough water.

2.We drink too many soft drinks, beer, wine, coffee, tea and other beverages. These are diuretics that cause the body to excrete water and we should use them sparingly, if at all.
Which illnesses are associated with chronic dehydration?
Dehydration causes kidney stones, gallstones, heartburn and indigestion. Urinary tract infections, seasonal allergies and blood sugar imbalance are also related to dehydration.

What is the best type of water to drink?
•Avoid tap water. It contains fluoride and chlorine, both of which are unhealthy. What most people don’t know is that tap water also contains residues from prescription drugs, that are excreted through human waste but cannot be removed from municipal water systems, so you end up drinking other people’s drugs.
•Filtering is better than doing nothing but is not completely clean because most filters don’t remove all the chlorine or fluoride
•Distilled and reverse osmosis water have no minerals so they pull minerals out of your body and the net effect is dehydration.
•Good quality spring water is best, ideally bottled at the source.
How much water should we drink?
It varies depending on your body size and level of activity but a good rule of thumb is 1 quart of water daily for every 50 pounds of weight.

Drinking only water and eliminating other beverages trains your body to tell you when you’re thirsty. However about 37% of Americans mistake thirst for hunger, and instead of drinking liquid, they eat.

When should we drink?
It’s not a good idea to drink with food because the liquid dilutes the hydrochloric acid in the stomach and prevents protein digestion. A sip of liquid with a meal is fine, but drink most of your water between meals.
Your body is 70% water. Without proper hydration, the chemical processes necessary for good health cannot work well. Drinking the right kind of water in the right amounts at the right times will help you feel better and stay well.

This documentary video by Rawfor30 showcase just a few Americans with ‘incurable’ diabetes who switched their diet to all natural food and got off insulin within a month.

In 1881 a German born doctor name Emil Schnee treated diabetes as a cure, not only by changing his patients to an all natural diet, but also with the aid of the natural spring waters of Carlsbad New Mexico.

In 1889 Dr. Schnee became the author of his own book entitled “Diabetes Its Cause and Permanent Cure.” Included in his book, Dr. Schnee goes into a nicely sophisticated discussion on diet. What has changed throughout the years and what else did Emil Schnee and other doctors know about diabetes? You may be impressed.

Copies of the original 215 page-well written and documented book can be found in a few bookstores today. But a nice 105 page eBook is now available for you to download, read, and learn of Schnee incredible work and that of the medical community of his time.

It’s entitled “Diabetes Its Cause And Permanent Cure” written back in 1889. Copies of the original 215 page-well written and documented book can be found in a few bookstores today. But a nice 105 page eBook is now easily available for you to download for people to learn of Schnee incredible work and that of the medical community of his time. Did a 19th century physician know the cure to diabetes?

Following an intense investigation and research by doctors in much of Europe and the United States-on this relatively new disease, Dr. Schnee documents in the first few chapters of the book his remarkable findings of diabetes cause from a purely medical standpoint. But he also in simple language provides useful information about diabetes that anyone can digest and learn from.

Emil Schnee was born in Germany and eventually moved to Carlsbad and treated people with diabetes with the aid of the natural spring waters of Carlsbad, and in his book he explains why. Notice for example how this doctor treated diabetes as a CURE, being successful in the treatment of 53 patients ranging in all ages. On page 77, Dr. Schnee details a day-by-day step-by-step treating of 12 of these 53 patients that resulted in a full recovery from the disease, using only techniques known to them at the time. And starting on page 67 of this eBook the author goes into a nicely sophisticated discussion on diet, which of course is always a major factor when dealing with diabetes. What has changed throughout the years? You might surprise.

Diabetes today hits too close to home. In 2009 it was reported that 23.6 million people in the United States had diabetes and that number was rising! It’s safe to say that most of us have family members, friends, acquaintances, that have diabetes if not ourselves. Since Dr. Schnee no doubt was successful in his treatment of diabetes, could his work and that of his colleagues provide key informations to a possible cure in our own modern times? With the exposure of their remarkable expertise, could the two “medical worlds” compare notes so-to-speak for the benefit of those struggling with this disease today?

“Diabetes Its Cause and Permanent Cure” may be over a century old, but it contents no doubt are timeless.
